The ecological project for integrated environmental technology, or "Ökoprofit" for short, is a consulting project for companies and institutions offered by various municipalities. The aim of this project is to identify optimization potential in the company. The focus is on reducing resource consumption in the company and integrated forward-looking environmental protection in order to reduce operating costs and at the same time contribute to environmental protection.
Masterflex had been working intensively on operational environmental protection and the improvement of occupational health and safety for a year since January 2011 as part of the Ecoprofit project. As part of an internal call for ideas, many suggestions were submitted by Masterflex employees on how to sustainably implement climate protection and environmental measures in the company. In workshops on environmentally relevant topics and by consulting environmental experts in on-site meetings, many suggestions were created and new ways were worked out of how resources can be used more efficiently in the future. Changes were also made in administration and production to ensure energy savings and improve the effectiveness of various work and production processes.
"It is important for us to operate more efficiently and save costs," says Ole Stein, business unit manager at Masterflex and member of the Ecoprofit project team. "By working out practical and ecologically sensible measures, Masterflex was able to sustainably save resources and make an important contribution to protecting the environment."
At the end of the process, the company was inspected, the eco-audit, by an Ecoprofit representative. This involved a walk-through of the company, environmentally relevant questions were answered and the results of the previously developed ideas were presented. Masterflex successfully passed the eco-audit without any deviations on December 13, 2011 and thus received the award as an Ecoprofit company. "We are pleased to be able to present ourselves as a sustainable company with an environmental management system," said Stein. The official presentation of the certificate took place on January 19, 2012 at the Gelsenkirchen Science Park with representatives of the state government in attendance.
